The transfer and transport of commodities by an air carrier, whether charter or commercial, is what air freight logistics is all about. Many in the logistics industry choose this option since packages can be sent from commercial and passenger aircraft gateways to any location where a plane can fly and land.

Goods delivered by air also have the advantage of high-speed, time-sensitive shipping to any location in the world, which is extremely beneficial to small and mid-sized businesses because it allows them to participate in international trade quickly and efficiently.

Types Of Air Cargo Services :

Express Air Service

If your cargo is being shipped by express air, it will be placed on a direct flight to its final destination.

Standard Air Service

If your cargo is being shipped by regular air, it will most likely make stops at one or two airports, where it will either change planes or be loaded or unloaded with other cargo.

Deferred Air Service

Your cargo will make many stops along the way to its final destination if it is shipped via deferred air service. Although this air service is less expensive than express air service, it is still more costly than shipping LCL

Primary types of air freight:

Charter

When selecting an expedited charter, you often hire an air freight broker to locate a plane and crew that is available in the geographic location of your freight, or at least one that can be re-positioned into your area. This is a dedicated aircraft and crew specifically for your needs

On-Board Courier

An on-board courier checks your freight as luggage on a passenger airline. They must hold a passport from a country that allows them entry into the destination country fairly easy, and they often need to have impeccable speaking skills so that they can easily talk their way through the Customs checkpoint upon entry. This type of air shipment is often reserved for documents or smaller freight that can fit into a carry-on bag, although I have seen several pallets of freight checked as luggage and delivered to their final destination.

Commercial Airline

Commercial air freight is cargo that is hired to a passenger airline and that is placed into the cargo hold of the passenger airplane. Freight forwarding companies often reserve space with an airline to ensure that they have available capacity to support the demand that they receive.
